Background

About the Dell Studio 1440

Sold 2009–2010

Model number 1440 identifies the Studio 14z, the thin-and-light entry in Dell's Studio range, introduced in 2009. Dell Studio 1440 machines dropped the built-in optical drive that every other Studio laptop carried, which allowed a slimmer, lighter 14-inch chassis aimed at students and travellers.

It used Intel Pentium and Core 2 Duo processors with DDR3 memory, and graphics came from the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M chipset instead of the Intel integrated graphics found in the standard Studio 14. It was sold as a companion to the standard Studio 14, not a replacement for it. With no optical drive, software reinstalls rely on USB media, and the original hard drives and batteries are now very old.
