Background

About the Dell Studio

Sold 2008–2011

Dell Studio was a consumer range sold from mid-2008 until 2011, positioned above the mainstream Inspiron and below the performance XPS machines. It opened with the Studio 15 and Studio 17 laptops and later gained 14-inch models, the slim Studio 14z, desktops and the higher-specification Studio XPS sub-range.

Studio laptops were pitched at home and student buyers who wanted more style and multimedia features: slot-loading optical drives, HDMI and eSATA ports, optional backlit keyboards and a wide choice of lid colours and patterns. Processors moved from Core 2 Duo to Core i3, i5 and i7 during the run. Dell had dropped the line by May 2011, and surviving machines are now old enough for worn batteries, hinges and hard drives to be common.
