Background

About the Sony VAIO VGN TZ Series

Sold 2007–2008

Launched in 2007, the Sony VAIO VGN TZ Series was an 11.1-inch ultraportable weighing around 1.2 kg, with a carbon fibre body, an LED-backlit screen and a built-in optical drive. It used ultra-low-voltage Intel Core 2 Duo processors and was among the first VAIO notebooks to offer a solid-state drive and the isolated-key keyboard later used across the range.

In September 2008 Sony announced a worldwide inspection and repair programme for the TZ, after finding that wiring near the hinge or power connector could short and overheat. Machines that were never checked may still carry that risk. The TT replaced the series later in 2008.
