Background

About the Sony VAIO VGN S Series

Sold 2004–2006

The Sony VAIO VGN S Series was a 13.3-inch widescreen notebook sold from 2004 to 2006, built for people who wanted full performance in a case of about 2 kg. It combined Intel Pentium M processors with dedicated ATI or NVIDIA graphics and a built-in optical drive, which was unusual in so compact a machine at the time.

It was the direct ancestor of the SZ, which replaced it in 2006, and sat between the tiny T Series and the full-size 15.4-inch models. Examples are now around twenty years old: IDE hard drives, batteries and optical drives are all likely to need attention.
