Background

About the Sony VAIO VGN SR Series

Sold 2008–2009

From 2008 the Sony VAIO VGN SR Series took over the mainstream part of the SZ's role, offering a 13.3-inch 16:10 screen in a body of roughly 1.9 kg. It was built on Intel's Centrino 2 platform with Core 2 Duo processors, most versions carried ATI Mobility Radeon graphics, and an optical drive was built in.

The SR was positioned beneath the lighter, more expensive VGN Z, as a portable for students and office workers. Its successor in 2010 was the VPC S1. A worn battery and a slowing or failing mechanical hard drive are the faults most often met on machines of this generation.
