Background

About the Sony VAIO VGN X Series

Sold 2004–2005

Sony VAIO VGN X Series refers to the X505, an extremely thin 10.4-inch notebook first shown in Japan in late 2003 and sold in Europe and North America in 2004 with the VGN prefix. It weighed roughly 800 g, tapered to about a centimetre at the front edge, and placed its keyboard at the front of the body with a pointing stick and no palm rest.

It ran on an ultra-low-voltage Intel Pentium M processor, and network and display connections were made through adapters to save space. It was a costly, limited-volume showpiece. The later VAIO X of 2009 is a different machine, coded VPCX1.
