About the Sony VAIO VGN P

Sold 2009–2010

Unveiled in January 2009, the Sony VAIO VGN P was a pocketable notebook about the size of a long envelope, weighing roughly 640 g. Its 8-inch screen had an unusually wide 1600 x 768 resolution, the keyboard ran the full width of the body, and a pointing stick took the place of a touchpad. Power came from an Intel Atom processor, with either a small hard drive or a solid-state drive.

Sony presented it as a second computer for travel and avoided calling it a netbook. Early versions ran Windows Vista, which taxed the hardware. A revised model, the VPCP1, followed in 2010.
