Background

About the Sony VAIO VGF Series

Sony VAIO VGF Series does not correspond to a notebook range. Sony's notebook prefixes were PCG, VGN, VPC and later SV, and its desktops used PCV and VGC. VGF was instead applied to VAIO-branded companion devices sold in the mid-2000s, among them the VAIO Pocket hard-disk music player of 2004 (VGF-AP1) and the WA1 wireless music streamer of 2006 (VGF-WA1).

These were standalone consumer electronics products intended to work with a VAIO computer rather than being computers themselves. Where the name turns up in connection with a notebook, it may be a misreading of VGN, the prefix carried by Sony notebooks sold between 2004 and 2009.
