Background

About the Apple PowerBook G4 15" M7710

Introduced 2001

M7710 is the 500 MHz configuration of the original Titanium PowerBook G4, introduced on 9 January 2001 and sold until 16 October that year. It was the higher of the two launch models, above the 400 MHz M7952, with more memory and a larger hard drive.

The Titanium was a marked change from the PowerBook G3: about one inch thick, with a 15.2-inch widescreen display of 1152 by 768 and a slot-loading DVD drive, but without the swappable drive bays of its predecessor. Graphics are an ATI Rage Mobility 128 with 8 MB of memory. First-generation machines are the ones most affected by flaking paint and by hinges that crack where they meet the lower case.
