Background

About the Apple PowerBook G4 15"

Sold 2001–2006

The 15-inch PowerBook G4 was the core of Apple's professional notebook range from January 2001 to early 2006, in two distinct forms. The Titanium model of 2001–2003 has a 15.2-inch widescreen display in a painted titanium case and ran from 400 MHz to 1 GHz. The aluminium model that replaced it in September 2003 added FireWire 800, USB 2.0 and a backlit keyboard, and reached 1.67 GHz.

Each has known weaknesses. Titanium machines suffer from broken hinges, flaking paint and worn display cables. Aluminium machines are known for a failing lower memory slot, white spots on some displays and, on later models, unexpected sleep attributed to faulty sensors. The 15-inch MacBook Pro replaced it in 2006.
