Background

About the Apple MacBook

Sold 2006–2012, 2015–2019

Apple MacBook is the name Apple gave its mainstream consumer laptop when it moved to Intel processors. The first, released in May 2006, replaced the iBook with a 13.3-inch polycarbonate machine in white or black. An aluminium unibody version followed in October 2008 and became the 13-inch MacBook Pro in 2009, while a white unibody model carried the name until 2011, with education sales continuing into 2012.

The name returned in 2015 on a 12-inch Retina laptop with a single USB-C port, sold until 2019, and again in 2026 with the low-cost MacBook Neo. Faults vary by generation: cracked palm rests on the early plastic models, peeling rubber bases on the white unibody, and butterfly keyboard failures on the 12-inch.
