Background

About the Apple MacBook 13"

Sold 2006–2012

Three different machines carried the name Apple MacBook 13" between 2006 and 2012, all with a 13.3-inch 1280 by 800 display. The original polycarbonate model, A1181, ran from May 2006 to October 2009 in white and, until 2008, black. The aluminium unibody A1278 of October 2008 lasted only until June 2009 under the MacBook name before being renamed MacBook Pro. The white unibody A1342 then ran from October 2009, leaving general sale in July 2011.

Processors went from Intel Core Duo to Core 2 Duo, and graphics from Intel integrated chips to the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and 320M. All three take standard 2.5-inch drives, so replacing an old hard drive with a solid-state drive is a common upgrade.
