Background

About the Apple iBook G4 12

Sold 2003–2006

The 12.1-inch iBook G4 was the smallest and least expensive laptop in Apple's range between October 2003 and May 2006, weighing 2.2 kg. Four versions were made, at 800 MHz, 1.0 GHz, 1.2 GHz and 1.33 GHz, each sold with a combo drive as standard, while a SuperDrive was a standard fitting only on certain 14.1-inch models. AirPort Extreme wireless was factory fitted from the late 2004 revision, and the 2005 machine added Bluetooth, 512 MB of memory and Radeon 9550 graphics.

Getting at the hard drive of an Apple iBook G4 12 involves extensive dismantling, so drive replacements are slow work. The original 4200 rpm drives are also a major reason these machines feel sluggish today.
