Background

About the IBM ThinkPad Edge E40

Sold 2010–2011

IBM ThinkPad Edge E40 is a 14-inch laptop that Lenovo released in early 2010 as part of the first ThinkPad Edge generation, fitted with either a first-generation Intel Core processor or an AMD processor. It belongs to the same size class and generation as the Edge 14, and published user manuals for the E40 list machine type 0199. Despite the IBM label sometimes attached to it, it was a Lenovo product throughout.

As with other Edge models, the E40 was a lower-cost ThinkPad for small businesses, with the island-style Edge keyboard and both TrackPoint and touchpad. The 14-inch Edge machines of that year had 1366 by 768 LED-backlit screens, built-in DVD drives and 2.5-inch SATA hard drives, which are now the component most worth replacing.
