About the Dell Inspiron 1501

Sold 2006–2007

The Dell Inspiron 1501 went on sale in late 2006 and was among the first Dell laptops to use AMD processors, after years in which the company had fitted Intel chips exclusively. It was a 15.4-inch widescreen budget model offered with AMD Sempron, Turion 64 or dual-core Turion 64 X2 processors and ATI Radeon Xpress integrated graphics.

It sat beneath the Intel-based Inspiron 6400 in price and was aimed squarely at first-time and home buyers. The design is thick and heavy by modern standards. With nearly two decades of use behind them, surviving machines usually have worn-out batteries, slow hard drives and noisy or dust-clogged fans.
