Background

About the Sony VAIO VPC X1 Series

Sold 2009–2010

The Sony VAIO VPC X1 Series, usually called the VAIO X, was launched with Windows 7 in October 2009. It was an 11.1-inch notebook just under 14 mm thick and weighing roughly 700 g, with a carbon fibre casing and a 1366 x 768 LED-backlit screen.

To reach that size Sony used an Intel Atom Z-series processor and solid-state storage in place of the faster parts of the VAIO TT, so it was light and long-running but modest in performance. Built-in mobile broadband was offered, and an extended battery could be attached underneath. Its very thin construction makes it more delicate to work on than a mainstream VAIO.
