About the Sony VAIO VPCEC Series

Sold 2010–2011

With a 17.3-inch screen, the Sony VAIO VPCEC Series was the largest notebook in the 2010 VAIO E Series and was meant as a desktop replacement for the home. It shared its styling, isolated-key keyboard and first-generation Intel Core processors with the 14-inch VPCEA and 15.5-inch VPCEB, but most versions had ATI Mobility Radeon graphics, and there was room for a Blu-ray drive.

It is a heavy machine that was not designed to be carried daily. A 17.3-inch successor, the VPCEJ, appeared in 2011. Common repairs on machines of this age involve the hard drive, the battery and dust-related overheating.
