Background

About the Sony VAIO VPC

Sold 2009–2012

Sony VAIO VPC is the model prefix Sony adopted in late 2009, when its Windows 7 machines were launched, replacing VGN on notebooks and VGC on desktops. It stayed in use until 2012, when new models switched to codes beginning SV.

In a VPC model code the letters after the prefix give the series: E (EA, EB, EC and others) for mainstream home notebooks, S and Z for 13-inch portables, F for the 16-inch multimedia machine, Y, X, W, M and P for small and light models, and B for business. J and L are all-in-one desktops rather than notebooks. The range begins with late Core 2 Duo hardware and Atom netbooks, then covers the first two generations of Intel Core i processors. Sony sold the VAIO business in 2014.
