Background

About the IBM ThinkPad L Series

Sold from 2010

IBM ThinkPad L Series is a name applied to a line that has only ever been Lenovo's: the ThinkPad L series was introduced in April 2010, five years after the IBM sale, to replace the R series. It sits below the T and X series as the value business ThinkPad, widely bought by companies and by education. The first models were the 14-inch L412 and 15.6-inch L512, promoted on environmental grounds for their recycled plastics and packaging.

Annual updates followed: the L420 and L520 in 2011, the L430 and L530 with an island-style keyboard in 2012, and 13.3-inch models from 2018. Around the end of 2019 the names changed to L13, L14 and L15 with generation numbers, and in 2024 the L16 replaced the L15.
